In asking to be married in the Catholic Church, you are publicly proclaiming your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and asking to live as disciples of Christ in the Sacrament of Marriage. The sacred liturgy of your wedding, which begins your married life by the solemn exchange of marital consent, is above all else an act of worship, and we will help you prepare both for that happy day and for the lifetime of marriage that follows your nuptial liturgy.
We understand that you are concerned to have every detail of your wedding carefully planned and well-executed, and we will work with you to ensure that the sacred liturgy is a beautiful and memorable event for you and your families and friends. We ask you to remember that your wedding, although an intensely personal moment for you, is not a private event; rather, it is a public celebration of one of the seven Sacraments given to the Church by the Lord Jesus. For this reason, we must take care to ensure that the sacred liturgy is celebrated according to the mind of the Church and in conformity with liturgical law and local custom.
The Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul is not a "venue"; we are a parish that offers the sacraments.
For complete details and for all policies, please locate the "Documents" section on this page and download the "Policy and Procedures" document. You can also download the complete Scripture Readings and Propers for weddings, as well as the forms you will need to fill out with information about your wedding liturgy.
The Basilica's preparation program conforms to the Marriage Preparation Guidelines in the Diocese of Knoxville. Preparation for marriage at the Basilica requires reading and preparing documents, a pre-nuptial investigation, catechesis, and liturgical preparation, including several meetings with the priest or deacon and other marriage preparation staff.

Contraception: Why Not, by Janet E. Smith, PhD (free digital download) - Why the Catholic Church still teaches that sex, love and life are totally made for each other
The Basilica's staff Wedding Liaison, Loraine Torrence, is appointed by Fr. Carter to ensure that all the wedding ceremony details are implemented according to the Basilica's policies. The Basilica's Wedding Liaison works for the Pastor, not to fulfill every request of the bride and groom (in the way that a wedding planner does), but to help ensure the sacredness of the wedding liturgy by guiding the participants during the preparation, at the wedding rehearsal, and on the wedding day at the church. It is important that the couple and all members of the wedding party understand and respect the authority that the Pastor has delegated to her.
Some couples also hire a wedding planner to coordinate the various aspects of the wedding including the reception and other events. If you do hire a wedding planner, please let the planner know that the Basilica staff communicates directly with the bride and groom only, and is not permitted to coordinate with the wedding planner. And remember, while at the church, the Basilica's Wedding Liaison (not the hired wedding planner) is in charge of directing the wedding.
For those wishing to hire a wedding planner for the overall coordination of the wedding events, the Basilica recommends The Best Day Wedding Coordinating, by former Basilica parishioner, Kelly Francescutti. Kelly's service works in harmony with the Basilica's Wedding Liaison, so that the two roles complement each other with no overlap.

Anna & Simeon were faithful people who belonged to a covenant that had experienced a lot of strife. They went to the Temple every night praying for their Savior. Remain faithful.
Homily by David Carter about the envisioned Sts. Anna and Simeon Society (10/3/21)
Luke 16:18 “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery."
Mark 10:11-12 “He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
Romans 7:2-3 “Thus a married woman is bound by law to her living husband; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law in respect to her husband.
Consequently, while her husband is alive she will be called an adulteress if she consorts with another man. But if her husband dies she is free from that law, and she is not an adulteress if she consorts with another man.”
1 Corinthians 7:10-11 “To the married, however, I give this instruction (not I, but the Lord): A wife should not separate from her husband—and if she does separate she must either remain single or become reconciled to her husband—and a husband should not divorce his wife.”
Matthew 5:32 “But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
Matthew 19:8-9 “He said to them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery.”
Individuals who experience same-sex attractions are called to chastity in their respective state of life, as are all human
beings. For married people, this means an exclusive, faithful relationship which is open to the possibility of having children. For
single people, this means abstaining from sexual intimacy and fostering authentic friendships.
Courage International is a Catholic apostolate that helps men and women who experience same-sex attractions to strive for chastity. Encourage is the counterpart apostolate for family and friends of people who identify as LGBTQ, who are looking for help to keep the faith and keep their family bonds intact.
Unjust discrimination against people struggling with same-sex attraction or gender identity is not part of the Catholic faith.
