Our
Basilica Trail Life program is in need of adult volunteers. We have recruited our Troop Leaders, but we are still in search of a Troopmaster. Volunteers do not need to be parents of Trailmen. No experience is required for the Troop Leader positions, just a willingness to learn and serve. No formal experience is required for the Troopmaster positions, but we are seeking someone with a passion for the outdoors and comfort in a leadership role. We are hoping to start our Trail Life program this August, but if we cannot fill these positions by July 1 we will not be able to field a troop this year. If you are interested please contact Nathan Bird ([email protected]).
Troopmaster (4hrs/week):
The Troopmaster is the "face" of the troop. The Troopmaster organizes the troop leaders and oversees troop meetings. This is one of the more hands-on positions, but also includes a commitment to planning troop meetings and attending Troop Committee meetings. Previous outdoor experience, whether in a formal capacity or simply as a hobbyist, is encouraged for this position.
These leaders are the ones who have the most direct contact with the Trailmen. They plan and lead the activities at the troop meetings. Most of the troop activities can be planned with the help of the guidebook so very little experience or prior knowledge is necessary. What is necessary is a willingness to work directly with the boys as a guide and mentor.
