Each year we order Catholic liturgical calendars from The Catholic Extension as a gift to our parishioners, and they normally arrive before Christmas. The calendars were delayed this year but they arrived on 1/9/25!
It is traditional for parish priests to bless chalk for each family so that they may mark the names of the three Magi over their doors, in the blessing of homes as a witness of their faith and protection against evil. After Mass on the weekend of Jan. 4 & 5, 2025, you can pick up blessed chalk in the vestibule, and take it home for a traditional Epiphany House Blessing. Click to see the instructional flyer.
Former Basilica parishioner +Sherry Ohotnicky passed away on Dec. 26, 2024, after a recurrence of cancer. Sherry and her husband Pete and their children were very active parishioners at the Basilica for several years until they moved to Michigan in 2019. Sherry started the first Catholic American Heritage Girls troop in Chattanooga here at the Basilica. Read more about Sherry's life and legacy in her obituary here. We pray that Sherry may rest in peace and that her family be comforted.

Mr. Federico Favero, entrusted with the Chancellery of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints in Rome, officially opened the Acts of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Fr. Patrick Ryan, which we delivered to Rome in October 2023. We were notified on Dec. 2, 2024, by the Postulator for the Cause of Fr. Patrick Ryan in Rome, Dr. Waldery Hilgeman. Basilica parishioner Nancy Fisher recently learned that she has pancreatic cancer. Nancy and Dan Fisher are active leaders in our Forever Young Catholics ministry. Nancy is about to start chemotherapy, and the Fishers ask for prayers for Nancy and the family during this time of trial. Click for details.
The traditional Ember Days of fasting for Advent are Wed., Fri., and Sat., Dec. 18, 20, and 21. While a fast is not obligatory, it is a worthy traditional spiritual practice to fast or abstain in some way on one or more of these days.
The Basilica Outreach Committee is collecting items in November to meet the needs of individuals using the services of the CHATT Foundation. Fall and Winter clothing and accessories, socks, underwear, unused pillows, bed linens, blankets, handwarmers, pop-top cans, deodorant razors, towels/washcloths, laundry detergent, napkins/cups, and canned vegetables. Drop off donations in the Basilica vestibule by Nov. 24.
The Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul invites you to support the UTC Catholic Center for Giving Tuesday! The UTC Catholic Center has teamed up with #iGiveCatholic to raise money on "Giving Tuesday", December 3rd and two weeks prior. This secular holiday follows "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday". The Basilica added a 7am Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays temporarily during Lent. We have tried to continue this since Mass then. But because of additional daily responsibilities of our priests, we are restoring our previous schedule of offering the 7am Mass on Wednesdays and Fridays only. We will continue to offer the 12pm Mass Monday through Friday.
Please pray for Matt Givens, who was hospitalized with gallstones and had to undergo three surgeries. He is now home from the hospital. The Givens family asks for prayers for his pain relief and his recovery. (Click for more information.)

One of our Basilica young mothers, Lauren Serio, has begun treatment for cancer. They discovered a mass on her brain, and also on her lungs and her spine. Lauren asks for prayer from the parish. Our 2024-25 Annual Stewardship Appeal is to support the regular operation of our parish through Offertory giving. We are aiming for 100% participation in our Offertory by all parishioners. St. Ambrose Catholic Homeschool Co-op is happy to announce our annual Advent Candle fundraiser. St. Ambrose families will be selling candles after all Masses and before the 1:30 Mass the weekends of November 9/10, 16/17, and 23/24. Candles are $7 for a box of four 12-inch tapers.
