The Sacristan ministry is made up of people who prepare what is needed in the sanctuary and the sacristy altar before and after Mass.
Ordained clergy are the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion (EMHC) ministry is made up of laypeople in the church who distribute Holy Communion during Mass alongside the clergy. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve at Ordinary Form Masses at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, when there are not enough Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. In addition, Extraordinary Ministers may be asked to distribute the Eucharist at special Masses such as weddings and funerals.
Candidates for the Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion and Sacristan ministries should receive proper training before they are commissioned for service in the parish.
